Lab-grown vs natural diamond: what's actually different (and what isn't)
The single most common question we hear is whether a lab-grown diamond is 'real'. It is β in every measurable way. Here's what actually separates the two.
Identical where it counts
A lab-grown diamond has the same crystal structure, the same hardness, and the same brilliance as a mined one. Gemologists need specialised equipment to tell them apart. Both are graded on the same Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat scales, and both come with independent IGI or GIA certificates.
Where they differ
Origin and price. A natural diamond formed over a billion years and carries that rarity; a lab-grown diamond is created in weeks and costs 40β60% less for a comparable stone. Natural diamonds hold resale value better; lab-grown lets your budget buy a larger or cleaner stone.
Our honest recommendation: if rarity and long-term value matter most, choose natural. If you want the most beautiful stone your budget allows, lab-grown is hard to beat.
