What the BIS hallmark actually means β and why it protects you
A hallmark is a small stamp with a large job: it is your guarantee that the gold is exactly as pure as the seller claims.
A BIS hallmark certifies three things β the stated purity (such as 750 for 18K or 916 for 22K) is accurate, the jeweller is registered with the Bureau of Indian Standards, and the piece was tested at a licensed Assaying & Hallmarking Centre.
It exists to protect buyers from under-karating, a common form of fraud in the gold trade. Every gold piece from Kalv Jewels is hallmarked, and you can verify any mark yourself using the free BIS Care app.
