What the BIS hallmark actually means — and why it protects you
A hallmark is a small stamp with a large job: it is your guarantee that the gold is exactly as pure as the seller claims.

A BIS hallmark certifies three things — the stated purity (such as 750 for 18K or 916 for 22K) is accurate, the jeweller is registered with the Bureau of Indian Standards, and the piece was tested at a licensed Assaying & Hallmarking Centre.
