Keep it brilliant
Fine jewellery lasts a lifetime with the right care. Here's everything you need to know to keep your pieces looking as beautiful as the day you received them.
Soak in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap for 5β10 minutes, then brush lightly with a soft toothbrush. Rinse and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
Always make sure your jewellery is fully dry before putting it away. Moisture trapped in a jewellery box speeds up tarnish on silver and can loosen glue-set stones.
Keep each piece in a separate soft pouch or compartment. Diamonds and harder stones can scratch softer metals and stones if stored together.
Put jewellery on after applying perfume, moisturiser, and hairspray. Remove before swimming, exercising, or cleaning. Chemicals, chlorine, and sweat are the biggest causes of damage.
| Substance / Activity | Why it damages | Most affects |
|---|---|---|
| Chlorine (pool / spa) | Weakens gold alloys, discolours silver | Gold, silver |
| Perfume & hairspray | Chemical buildup dulls stones and metal | All metals, pearls |
| Bleach & cleaners | Corrodes metals, loosens adhesive settings | All metals |
| Saltwater | Pits and erodes metal over time | Gold, silver |
| Ultrasonic cleaners | Vibration can loosen prong-set stones | Diamond rings |
| Sleeping / exercising | Puts stress on settings, causes bending | Rings, bangles |
